A wholly-owned subsidiary of UK Coal, Harworth Power's main business activity is to use the non-core resources of its parent company to generate additonal revenue and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
One key problem with using mine gas is that its inherent variabilty in quality and pressure causes the generators to frequency trip and stop running at any hour of the day or night. Because the existing telemetry and alerting system was ineffective and prone to locking, generator downtime often meant long periods of lost production. With no means to remotely restart the engine, a site visit would also be required.
Initially netrix Industrial was installed on five generators at Maltby Colliery, which soon resulted in increased productivity and revenue through vast reductions in generator downtime.
Subsequently the netrix Dashboard system was augmented to provide an additonal customised status screen giving at-a-glance overviews of engine status for the entire fleet, as well as KPIs such as MWhs, CH4 quality, and current kWh output.
